About Lifeline
Lifeline Aotearoa has spent more than 50 years supporting people in New Zealand who are facing crisis, emotional distress, or difficult life challenges. Through a nationwide 24/7 helpline and text service, it provides counselling and support that helps strengthen the wellbeing of individuals, whānau, and communities across Aotearoa.
The opportunity
An opening is available for a Shift Supervisor to join the Lifeline team in Auckland. This role is rostered for 32 hours per week and includes evenings and weekends. The position is focused on keeping 24/7 service operations safe, smooth, and effective while supporting helpline staff and volunteers to respond with care and professionalism.
This opportunity suits an experienced practitioner who is ready to move into a leadership position, as well as someone already working in a leadership capacity.
What you'll do
- Oversee day-to-day shift operations to maintain a safe, efficient, and uninterrupted helpline service.
- Provide leadership, direction, and practical support to staff and volunteers during shifts.
- Help the team deliver compassionate, effective, and high-quality responses to people seeking support.
- Manage operational needs within a 24/7 service environment when required.
- Stay calm under pressure and contribute solutions in complex or challenging situations.
What you'll bring
- A qualification in counselling, social work, or another related health field.
- Professional registration, which is required for the role.
- Previous experience in a helpline, counselling, mental health, or social services setting.
- Proven leadership ability with the confidence to guide and support a team.
- Strong communication skills and a calm, supportive approach.
- A commitment to safe, person-centred practice that reflects Lifeline’s values.
