Utility Combo Technician

About the role

GTel is expanding quickly across Ontario and is preparing for a busy 2025 season. The company is hiring Utility Combo Technicians to join its growing team in Geraldton, Ontario. This opportunity is open to candidates seeking a fresh start in their career, and no prior experience is necessary because full training will be provided.

What you will do

In this role, you will split your time between meter reading and locating underground utilities in assigned service areas. The work changes based on customer needs, so flexibility is important. You will be expected to follow all health and safety requirements closely to protect yourself and the communities served.

• Carry out underground utility inspections and complete daily meter reading routes.
• Move between meter reading tasks and utility locating as the workday demands.
• Work with contractors, developers, and builders to share underground utility location details.
• Complete reports and records that confirm marked utility locations.
• Read meters accurately and verify results carefully.
• Take responsibility for company equipment and the assigned vehicle.
• Perform sewer safety inspections.

The ideal candidate can work on their own, stay organized, and meet deadlines without close supervision. Strong customer service, basic computer use, sound judgment, and problem-solving ability are important. The job also requires physical mobility, comfort working outdoors in different weather conditions, and the ability to handle equipment repeatedly during the day.

• Ability to manage work independently and stay on schedule.
• Strong customer service approach.
• Comfortable using computers for day-to-day work.
• Good judgment and practical problem-solving skills.
• Capability to walk in and out of ditches, move across uneven ground, and lift/load equipment weighing up to 9 kg (20 lbs) multiple times per day.
• Ability to carry and swing 20 lbs of equipment while walking.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Valid G-class driver’s licence and a clean 3-year driver’s abstract.
• Availability for weekend on-call work and overtime when needed.
