Role overview
The Department of War Education Activity is hiring a Virtual School Assistant to support students and staff in an overseas school setting in Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. This is a temporary, on-site position that helps keep virtual instruction and student support running smoothly when classroom teachers are unavailable.
What you will do
- Step in to help virtual learners with instructional support when the assigned teacher is not available.
- Coordinate with Virtual School teachers regarding student absences and cases where students move ahead academically.
- Help students resolve technical problems with the platforms they use for learning.
- Use school systems to record daily attendance and monitor student supervision.
- Gather and organize student data reports for the virtual school program.
- Complete all training assigned by Virtual School Administration.
- Oversee the full testing process when the primary teacher is absent.
- Draft letters, messages, and memoranda as needed.
Employment conditions

Who can apply
This vacancy is open only to applicants who meet one of the listed federal employment authorities, including current DoWEA civilian employees, current Department of War civilians, certain competitive and excepted service categories, military spouse and family member preference categories, transition assistance programs, veteran authorities, and other eligible federal transfer or preference groups.
Qualification requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the stated education and/or experience standards. Relevant experience can include paid work, unpaid service, volunteer assignments, and community or national service. A resume must clearly show the experience being claimed, and transcripts are required if qualification is based on education.
Qualified experience includes one year of specialized work such as using a computer to prepare documents, maintain records, and handle a range of clerical tasks. This is comparable to work at the GS-04 level.
Alternatively, candidates may qualify through four years of education beyond high school from an accredited business, secretarial, technical school, junior college, college, or university.
A combination of qualifying education and experience may also be used if it adds up to 100 percent of the requirement.
Applicants currently in a General Schedule position must have completed 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade or equivalent GS-04 level within the last 52 weeks.
