About the role
Newsweek is hiring an Associate News Editor to strengthen its UK digital newsroom. The position is based in the United Kingdom and can be carried out remotely, hybrid from London, or from the Canary Wharf office. This is a full-time position on a five-day rota, which will often include one or two weekend days.
The role is best suited to someone with substantial digital newsroom experience and strong coverage knowledge of U.S. news, including politics, current affairs, and culture. The editor will need to move quickly on breaking stories, contribute original and exclusive reporting, and help maintain a high standard of digital publishing.
What you'll do
- Create, edit, and publish several stories each day.
- React promptly and accurately to breaking developments.
- Track multiple news sources to identify fresh angles and emerging stories.
- Develop pitches for original stories, exclusives, and interviews.
- Support and update live blogs when required.
- Work with the U.S. News Editor and the wider editorial team on coverage planning and special projects.
- Make sure every piece is accurate, fair, and consistent with journalistic standards.
- Handle additional editorial tasks as needed to support business priorities.
What we're looking for
You should have several years of experience in digital news journalism and be comfortable editing and producing content under pressure. Strong editorial judgment across U.S. topics is essential, along with excellent planning and organizational ability.
You’ll also need confidence using digital publishing platforms, content management systems, and editing tools, plus working knowledge of common office software such as Microsoft Office. Flexibility is important, including availability for weekend shifts when required.
Working style
This role follows a rota across five working days per week and will regularly involve one or two weekend days. You may work from home anywhere in the UK or from Newsweek’s office space in Canary Wharf, London.
Equal opportunity
Newsweek is committed to building an inclusive workplace and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds. The company aims to maintain a respectful, equitable, and supportive environment for all employees.
