Bridge Engineer

Opportunity

Beca is looking for a Bridge Engineer to join its Whangārei team. This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys bridge-related work and wants exposure to a wide range of projects across Northland. The position covers assessment, strengthening, and delivery of existing bridge structures, along with complex engineering analysis and retrofit or refurbishment design. You will be involved from early concepts through to construction while continuing to grow your technical capability.

The work sits within a strong programme of structure maintenance across highways and roads in the Northland region. The portfolio includes bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and river protection structures.

This position is aimed at an intermediate-level engineer who wants to deepen experience in design, site delivery, and asset management while being part of a supportive structures team operating across the country.

What you will do

In this role, you will carry out detailed analysis of existing structures, support bridge projects through construction, help with inspections or take ownership of them, and keep building your project and client management skills. You will also be supported by a multidisciplinary business with access to technical specialists and subject matter experts who can assist with project delivery and professional growth.

About you

You will be a qualified structural engineer with experience in either bridge design or bridge assessment, or both. Experience with remediation, retrofit, and strengthening solutions for existing bridges is also important, as is familiarity with the full design delivery pathway from concept development through detailed design and construction.

You should be motivated by practical, innovative approaches that help extend the life of existing assets and reduce environmental impact. Collaboration, strong problem-solving ability, and a willingness to keep learning are essential. A sense of enjoyment and teamwork is valued too.

The employer says the role would suit someone with at least 3 years of post-graduation experience, but candidates at different career stages may also be considered, with the position potentially adapted to match experience and goals.
