Overview
An established food manufacturing company is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager for its expanding ingredients division in Waterford. The position sits in a commercially important part of the business that is receiving major investment and growth focus.
The successful candidate will take ownership of developing a premium ingredient range across Ireland, the UK and wider Europe, with responsibility for opening new markets, winning strategic accounts and contributing to the division’s future direction.
What you’ll do
- Expand sales and business development activity across Ireland, the UK and European markets.
- Source and build relationships with new B2B customers in food manufacturing, pet food, foodservice, retail and ingredient-related sectors.
- Run the entire sales process, from lead generation and presentations through to negotiation, deal closure and ongoing account management.
- Strengthen relationships with existing customers to protect retention and uncover growth opportunities.
- Offer customers both technical guidance and commercial product advice.
- Track market movements, competitor activity and new business opportunities.
- Partner with Technical, Quality, Production and Operations teams to create customer-led solutions.
- Contribute to forecasting, budgeting and longer-term commercial planning.
- Represent the company at customer visits, trade shows and exhibitions across Europe.
- Travel regularly across Ireland, the UK and Europe to support commercial growth.
What the company is looking for
- Background in business development or sales within food manufacturing, food ingredients or foodservice.
- Solid knowledge of ingredients, proteins, flavourings, extracts, stocks, broths, seasonings or comparable food product categories.
- Confidence discussing both the technical and commercial uses of products with customers.
- Demonstrated success in growing sales and creating new business.
- An existing industry network would be an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Preparedness to travel extensively across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
- A full driving licence is required.
