As the Data Management Specialist, you will play a key role in improving how the University understands, organises, governs and applies its data. The position focuses on building stronger data foundations so information is trusted, connected, responsibly shared and used to support both strategic direction and everyday operations. You will work alongside colleagues and subject matter experts to strengthen governance, quality, architecture and interoperability across the organisation.
What you will do
- Support and shape initiatives that improve how the University manages, protects and uses data, while helping grow awareness and capability across teams.
- Deliver data management projects that create value, lower risk and assist staff who depend on reliable information in their work.
- Create and put into practice practical strategies, frameworks and ways of working that align with recognised global standards and current best practice.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate is someone who can turn data potential into practical insight and measurable impact. You should be collaborative, curious and confident in your subject matter knowledge, with the ability to guide work that improves information management across a complex organisation. You will also need to identify new developments, consider emerging tools and explain technical ideas in a way that is clear, useful and easy to apply.
Experience and capabilities
- Well-developed, hands-on expertise in data management, including experience creating and applying strategies, policies, procedures and frameworks in a large and complex environment.
- Experience handling compliance requirements in higher education or a comparable setting, including information management, public records, copyright, privacy and related obligations.
- Strong communication and relationship skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and explain complex concepts in both written and spoken form.
- Proven ability to lead projects and initiatives across multiple areas, supported by planning, influencing, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
Application requirements
Applicants are asked to submit a resume and a statement of suitability of no more than two pages, matched to the selection criteria set out in the position description. Candidates should have legal work rights in Australia. The University welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and encourages people who may not meet every criterion to apply if they believe the role is a strong fit.
Equal opportunity and support
The University is committed to diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity, and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds, including women in STEM, First Nations Peoples, people with disability and individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Support is available during the application process if needed.
