Driver / Dockhand

Role overview

Team Global Express is hiring an experienced, safety-minded Driver / Dockhand for its Priority operation based at Hobart Airport in Cambridge, Tasmania. This is a permanent full-time position suited to someone who enjoys practical work that combines local driving with freight handling. You will be part of a small, collaborative team and will help ensure freight is moved safely, efficiently, and within required timelines while also contributing to day-to-day depot activities.

The role suits a person with a strong work ethic, a hands-on approach, and a focus on delivering great customer service.

Working hours

The roster runs Monday to Friday, from 5:30 am to 1:36 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid break. The position is for 38 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out local pickups and deliveries in a safe and timely manner.
• Load, unload, and handle freight efficiently and safely.
• Use handheld scanning equipment to record freight movements.
• Apply the correct load restraint methods to secure freight.
• Perform daily vehicle pre-start checks and safety inspections.
• Complete delivery paperwork and operational records accurately.
• Support freight sorting and dock activities when needed.
• Use a forklift when required; forklift licensing is highly regarded.
• Follow all workplace safety procedures, policies, and compliance obligations.
• Report hazards, incidents, near misses, and any safety issues promptly.
• Maintain a consistently high level of customer service.
• Work with the wider depot team to help meet operational goals.

About you

You should have prior experience in a Driver, Dockhand, Freight Handler, or Transport role. You will need a current driver’s licence, with MR or HR licence being an advantage, and you must be able to operate both manual and automatic vehicles. A forklift licence is essential.

The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, comfortable with loading and unloading freight, has good communication and customer service skills, and can work both independently and as part of a team. You should also be physically capable of manual handling tasks and bring a reliable, punctual, and professional attitude to work.
