Role overview
Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking an ambitious and capable General Manager to support the Complex Abdomino Pelvic Specialties portfolio across the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals. The role sits within the surgery division and carries responsibility for the everyday running of services, operational performance, and service improvement delivery.
As a core member of the divisional leadership team, this position focuses on adult ENT and adult audiology services at the Royal London Hospital site and outreach locations, while also supporting the wider complex abdominal and pelvic specialties. The post holder will help drive improvements that strengthen patient experience, staff support, and service outcomes.
Key accountabilities
- Provide overall management oversight and accountability for the Complex Abdomino Pelvic Unit specialties, including vascular, general surgery, HPB, colorectal, gynaeoncology, and urology.
- Take responsibility for RTT, DM01, and cancer performance measures linked to these services, along with budget oversight and people management.
- Support the organisation’s aim of achieving RTT constitutional standards by March 2027 by helping shape sustainable waiting list recovery plans and managing insourcing activity effectively.
- Lead improvement work for the Royal London Hospital across the areas of responsibility, including follow-up on internal reviews, GIRFT findings, and peer review recommendations, which may require major process redesign.
- Work in partnership with Barts Health sister sites and wider North East London system partners to manage waiting lists efficiently and redesign care pathways and patient flow where needed.
- Keep capacity and demand under continuous review, ensure reports for tier 1 meetings are accurate, and maintain waiting list reduction plans that are both ambitious and realistic.
- Support the wider clinical and operational teams in delivering safe, efficient services across the specialty portfolio.
