Role overview
The Housekeeping Supervisor will work under the direction of the Executive Housekeeper, or another manager authorized by the hotel. This role is responsible for organizing and overseeing the work of room attendants, house porters, and linen porters so that guest rooms, corridors, fire exits, stairways, and service areas on the assigned floors remain clean, orderly, attractive, and well maintained.
The position also requires prompt and effective handling of staff and guest concerns, while acting in the hotel’s best interests and stepping in as the direct manager’s representative when needed.
Key duties
- Distribute work assignments to room attendants and porters to ensure full coverage across the assigned areas.
- Allocate additional tasks to room attendants and house porters as needed on the designated floors.
- Monitor the room-status system throughout the day and act on updates.
- Inspect and release a set number of guest rooms to meet the hotel’s required standards.
- Inform the housekeeping office about rooms that are not to be serviced, marked Do Not Disturb, or double locked by afternoon, and record them during handover.
- Identify maintenance issues in rooms and assigned areas, report them, and coordinate with Maintenance and Reception for out-of-order rooms.
- Make sure soft furnishings and room décor are kept to the expected standard.
- Oversee deep-cleaning activities and replacement tasks.
- Review daily arrival, departure, and VIP lists.
- Check VIP rooms to confirm they are cleaned and maintained properly, and ensure VIP amenities are replenished.
- Manage the daily issue and logging of keys and pagers for departmental staff.
- Verify that enough linen, cleaning products, and guest supplies are stocked in floor cupboards, and coordinate with the linen room and valet when required.
- Ensure public areas and back-of-house spaces remain clean.
- Support housekeeping stock counts when needed.
- Help monitor and enforce housekeeping processes such as lost property handling, key and pager control, security, emergency procedures, and health and safety standards for guests and employees.
- Take part in weekly inspections to keep all areas in excellent condition through preventive maintenance planning and proper FF&E management.
- Develop and put into practice environmentally friendly procedures to lower waste and energy use.
- Immediately report valuable lost items to security and ensure all lost property and packages are logged.
- Respond quickly to guest requests, questions, and complaints, and follow up until resolved or escalated appropriately.
- Support colleagues with similar or related duties whenever needed.
- Complete projects and assignments requested by the Executive Housekeeper.
- Prepare timesheets, rota schedules, and holiday plans according to business requirements when needed.
- Prepare purchase orders through Fourth Hospitality when required.
- Carry out any special project, task, or other reasonable request from the department head or hotel management.
Qualifications and skills
Success in this role calls for adaptability, a positive service mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to solve problems creatively. A genuine passion for delivering exceptional guest service, solid teamwork, and clear verbal communication are all important.
Previous supervisory experience in a comparable role is an advantage.
