Interior Designer

Overview

INC Architecture & Design is hiring a full-time Interior Designer for its New York City studio. The role is suited to a candidate who may be unlicensed but brings 3 to 5 years of professional experience, particularly in upscale hospitality projects such as hotels and restaurants. Strong design ability, excellent coordination skills, and a comfort level working in a collaborative architecture/interiors setting are important. The position also calls for experience with interior finishes, furniture, and contract administration.

The ideal candidate will hold either a four-year bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a master’s degree in Interior Design, and should be capable of working independently while coordinating with a range of consultants under the guidance of an associate.

Responsibilities

• Handle designated technical design duties, including assessing issues, evaluating options, and recommending appropriate design solutions.
• Make independent judgments on design challenges and methods when needed.
• Work directly with clients throughout the project process.
• Contribute to concept creation and early-stage design development.
• Prepare schematic layouts, blocking plans, and space plans.
• Use Revit for BIM work, with particular attention to furniture modeling and documentation.
• Create renderings and visual presentations of interior spaces.
• Coordinate and manage consultants involved in the project.
• Produce contract documents and specification packages.
• Apply NYC residential interior codes, with a focus on accessibility compliance.
• Support contract administration tasks such as submittals, RFIs, and site meetings.
• Report progress and status to associates.
• Maintain and organize project task lists.
• Oversee 2 to 3 projects at the same time across different stages of development.

Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of professional experience in interior design, ideally within high-end hospitality settings.
• At least 2 years of hands-on Revit experience, with examples demonstrating both design and documentation capabilities.
• Ability to produce strong renderings and understand how to create visually compelling imagery.
• Background in high-end residential or hospitality work is required.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Educational background should include either a four-year bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a master’s degree in Interior Design.

Benefits

The role is salaried, and benefits begin after a three-month introductory period. The package includes two weeks of paid vacation, paid holidays, time off between Christmas and New Year’s, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, snacks, beer and coffee on tap, and a 401(k).
