Role overview
This is a hands-on painting and decorating role based from the Audley village in Englefield Green, with regular travel to other sites for larger projects. A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential because the work spans multiple locations.
Audley retirement villages are premium communities where residents live in their own private homes and pay a management fee for property upkeep and on-site services. The villages also welcome external customers, so the role needs to deliver a consistently positive and professional experience for both residents and visitors.
Working to the Facilities Manager, you will help keep the villages visually appealing and in good repair across a defined area. The position is focused on maintaining finishes, carrying out decorative repairs, and supporting a welcoming environment for everyone on site.
Key accountabilities
- Deliver planned and responsive painting and decorating support to the retirement villages under the direction of the Facilities Manager.
- Repair and restore surfaces including walls, floors, ceilings, doors, and windows, both inside and outside the properties and across front-of-house and back-of-house areas.
- Work with the Facilities Manager to prepare a clear decorating plan covering what needs attention, the techniques to be used, and the materials needed to achieve a durable, high-quality result.
- Set up and maintain a painting schedule that defines when each area will be completed and how often repeat work is required.
- Spot decorative defects quickly and deal with them promptly, including touch-ups, minor repairs, and issues caused by damp or water damage.
- Carry out routine checks to ensure painted surfaces remain in good condition and to prevent small issues from developing further.
- Approach residents with tact and empathy, whether working in communal areas or inside private homes.
- Keep track of paints, tools, equipment, and other supplies, and request replacements or extra stock when required.
- Maintain very high standards of workmanship and record completed work with before-and-after photographs.
- Keep your workspace tidy and organised, with safety in mind for residents, colleagues, contractors, and visitors.
- Work closely with the Maintenance and Grounds teams and be flexible in supporting their work when needed.
- Carry out other reasonable duties requested by the Facilities Manager.
- Follow all relevant health and safety rules while undertaking decorating tasks.
- Be flexible with working hours so the painting schedule can be completed effectively.
