Role overview
This position is based in a locally owned store that provides health, beauty, and convenience services to the community. The focus of the role is to keep customers at the centre of service delivery while supporting pharmacy operations on duty.
Position summary
The pharmacist is responsible for overseeing pharmacy operations during scheduled shifts. This includes consulting with customers and healthcare professionals, delivering professional pharmacy services to the fullest permitted scope, dispensing medicines accurately, and helping maintain the dispensary.
Key duties
Customer service and pharmacy practice
- Welcome and acknowledge every customer who comes to the pharmacy area.
- Work in line with all applicable federal, provincial, regulatory, and legal obligations.
- Protect patient privacy and ensure confidentiality and consent processes are properly followed.
- Provide guidance on prescription medicines as well as over-the-counter and behind-the-counter products.
- Deliver expanded professional services to the fullest extent allowed within your competence.
- Remain clearly identifiable to customers and the public.
- Check that every prescription is prepared with the correct content and appropriate accuracy.
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals within the circle of care to support patient care.
- Keep all legally required records in accordance with legislation, professional standards, and company policy.
Workflow and inventory control
- Manage access to the dispensary to safeguard stock and protect patient information.
- Monitor and update workflow queues each day.
- Regularly review will-call bins according to standard operating procedures.
- Inspect inventory to identify expired stock.
- Oversee stock levels and medication orders from wholesalers.
- Ensure all documentation and control requirements for substances regulated under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act are met, including reporting to Health Canada and other authorities where required.
Store operations
- Maintain a professional appearance in entry and pickup workstations, counselling and waiting areas, and work islands.
- Contribute to financial reporting activities as needed.
- Review and act on internal store communications.
- Complete incident reports whenever customer or staff medication-related or privacy-related incidents occur.
Experience, skills, and workplace expectations
The role calls for independent judgment, the ability to make decisions on issues and problems, and confidence in planning, coordinating, delegating, and coaching pharmacy colleagues. You should be comfortable leading by example, supporting business growth, and contributing to enterprise programs. Strong customer service, professionalism, problem-solving ability, and practical computer skills are important, along with familiarity with pharmacy systems. You must also follow health and safety procedures to maintain a safe workplace and complete mandatory training plus optional continuing education when required.

Compensation
The hiring range is $52.00 to $57.00 per hour.
