Role Summary
BCS’s Product team is responsible for leading broad industry-facing initiatives and managing the full lifecycle of payment products. The team works with scheme owners and participants to keep offerings aligned with market expectations and regulatory obligations.
As Product Manager, you will steer the discovery, design, launch, ongoing enhancement, and future direction of payment products and services. This role requires strong collaboration across internal teams and external partners, from senior leadership through to delivery teams, to connect strategy with execution and deliver growth, long-term sustainability, and profitability in support of BCS’s objectives.
Core Responsibilities
- Create and shape the product strategy and roadmap so it fits the organisation’s broader direction, while defining clear success measures for each product.
- Partner with internal stakeholders, external parties, and senior leadership to establish product direction that supports growth, sustainability, and commercial outcomes; also identify and manage partnerships that strengthen product development and monetisation.
- Monitor the market for new financial technology partners, evaluate emerging trends, competitor activity, customer behaviour, and leading practices, and translate those insights into product direction and innovation priorities.
- Own product innovation end to end, working with stakeholders from market analysis and concept creation through product definition, business case development, build, pilot, and go-to-market planning.
- Oversee delivery planning and post-launch performance for new products and payment services, including financial performance and commercial results.
- Make sure new products and services comply with applicable regulatory and governance requirements.
- Handle day-to-day operational matters such as technical support, service issues, client support, and legal documentation.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Business, Technology, or a closely related discipline is required, along with at least 5 years of experience in product development or product management. Prior exposure to banking or financial platforms is specifically valued.
Skills and Working Style
You should bring a strong record of launching products and driving innovation within cross-functional teams in a flat organisational environment. The role calls for sharp problem-solving skills, sound decision-making, and the ability to influence stakeholders across functions and organisations.
A solid understanding of the payments sector and its supporting technologies is important, as is practical experience with risk and compliance considerations. You should also be comfortable with matrix-style and project-based delivery, combining high-level and detailed analysis as needed.
The ideal candidate is highly customer-focused, eager to understand market and client needs, and motivated to solve pain points through thoughtful, user-centred design. You should be self-driven, collaborative, quick to learn, curious, resilient, adaptable, and entrepreneurial. Strong communication and presentation abilities are also essential, including the ability to explain priorities clearly to mixed cross-functional audiences and manage customer and stakeholder relationships effectively.
