About sKids

sKids has been building energetic before- and after-school experiences for children across New Zealand since 1996. The organisation supports more than 3,800 tamariki every day at over 170 school locations and continues to expand.

The role is suited to someone who enjoys working in a lively environment filled with hands-on activities, movement, creativity, and variety. Each day can include art, science, sport, cooking, games, and other engaging experiences.

Role overview

As the Programme Manager, you will be the main person ensuring the morning and afternoon programme runs smoothly and feels positive for children. This is a part-time onsite position based in Papakura, Auckland, with a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week across Monday to Friday.

Morning shifts are scheduled between 7:00 am and 8:30 am. Afternoon shifts run from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, and being available from 2:30 pm is essential, although finishing times may differ. There may also be extra hours during school holiday programmes, typically between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

What you will do

  • Oversee the full daily operation of the sKids programme, from opening setup through to end-of-day pack down.
  • Supervise a large group of children and create an environment that is safe, inclusive, well organised, and engaging.
  • Design and run structured activities such as arts and crafts, sport, games, baking, drama, music, and outings including swimming, walks, and picnics.
  • Address challenging behaviour proactively and use positive guidance approaches to support children with different needs.
  • Serve as the key onsite contact for parents, caregivers, and school staff, maintaining strong professional relationships.
  • Lead, support, coach, and delegate tasks to Programme Assistants to maintain quality, accountability, and smooth programme delivery.
  • Plan ahead by preparing resources, organising activities, and setting clear expectations so each session operates seamlessly.

What we are looking for

We would like to hear from applicants who bring leadership experience with children and are comfortable running a busy programme independently. Experience in OSCAR, teaching, coaching, childcare, camps, or similar settings would be valuable.

You should be confident managing high-energy groups and difficult behaviour, while staying calm, firm, and practical in your approach. Strong communication skills are important, especially when dealing with families, schools, and colleagues.

Applicants should also have knowledge and understanding of Māori and Pasifika cultures, communities, and values, along with prior experience or familiarity working alongside these communities to support strong engagement. A valid right to work in New Zealand, reliable transport to the Papakura site, and being over 20 years of age are all required.

Perks and benefits

  • 50% discount on selected sKids programmes, which can be useful for your own children.
  • A referral bonus of up to $250 for each successful referral.
  • No weekend work and free time in the middle of the day, supporting better work-life balance.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing support.
  • A friendly and supportive team culture that celebrates success.

Additional information

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the team. The role is intended to be a fun and rewarding opportunity where work feels active and engaging.
