Role overview
This position supports the dining room by delivering menu items to guests and clearly explaining what is being served. The runner serves as a link between servers, cocktail servers, bartenders, chefs, and the rest of the front- and back-of-house team. The role requires courteous guest interaction and a strong focus on warm, efficient hospitality.
What you will do
- Keep a polished appearance in line with company standards and the employee handbook.
- Stay alert to guest needs and respond proactively.
- Deliver food promptly while describing dishes accurately and professionally.
- Help with table maintenance and clear extra tableware as needed.
- Keep assigned stations and the broader venue clean and orderly.
- Take direction from supervisors and work cooperatively with teammates.
- Maintain strong familiarity with the food menus and the company.
- Follow health department rules and company sanitation procedures.
- Relay guest requests and concerns to front-of-house, back-of-house, managers, and chefs.
- Set up the runner station properly and complete all opening, closing, and side-work duties assigned by management, including stocking supplies and station items.
- Report any broken items, equipment damage, or furniture damage to management right away.
- Attend daily pre-service meetings and any required training or department meetings.
- Learn from observation and active listening, share knowledge, and set a positive example for others.
- Bring a positive, professional attitude and contribute as a dependable team member.
- Understand the company, its partners, and the connected hotel environments.
Requirements
- Completion of company in-venue runner training and a Food Handling Certificate.
- Prior experience in hospitality.
- Previous experience working as a food runner.
- Experience in a busy restaurant, nightclub, or lounge environment.
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift for long periods.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfort with repetitive tasks and motions.
- Willingness to work near hot kitchen equipment and cleaning materials.
- Ability to stay focused and effective in a fast-moving, changing environment.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Additional information
This role is based in New York, NY and is a full-time, on-site position. The job involves opening and closing side-work, station stocking, daily pre-service meetings, and participation in training or departmental meetings. The work environment may include exposure to hot kitchen elements and cleaning products.
