About Partly
Partly is building a global platform for replacement parts, beginning with the automotive sector, with the aim of making it easier for anyone to fix anything and helping move the world toward a more sustainable future. The company is headquartered in Austin, Texas, and also operates offices in London, Christchurch, and Auckland. This position is based in the Christchurch office. Depending on where you are located, onboarding will happen through the nearest office, and the company brings the full team together for quarterly Season Openers, including travel and accommodation. Relocation support may also be available for candidates moving to join the team.
Founded by former Rocket Lab engineers, Partly applies advanced technology to solve large, complex problems in a $1.9 trillion industry. The team has grown rapidly, more than tripling in the last 12 months, with expectations to double again over the next year. Partly works with both major enterprises and fast-growing startups, providing digital infrastructure used by hundreds of companies around the world to organize and manage parts catalogs.
The company is backed by investors such as Blackbird Ventures, Square Peg, Octopus Ventures, Icehouse, Peter Beck, Akshay Kothari, and Dylan Field. Partly places strong emphasis on culture, ownership, and high-quality work.
Role overview
This is a senior product leadership position with end-to-end ownership of one or more core products. You will operate like a mini-founder for your product area, accountable for strategy, product-market fit, growth, and business outcomes. The emphasis is not simply on shipping features, but on building durable value for customers and the business as the company expands across markets and segments.
The role sits in a fast-changing environment where AI-assisted development is shrinking the time needed to explore and validate ideas. The expectation is that you can move quickly, build prototypes yourself, test them with customers, and make decisions based on evidence within days rather than waiting on engineering capacity.
What you will do
- Set and evolve the product vision, strategy, and roadmap so they stay aligned with company direction.
- Continuously evaluate and improve product-market fit across relevant markets and customer groups, including marketplace and multi-sided platform dynamics where relevant.
- Own the core product and product-led growth metrics, such as activation, adoption, retention, expansion, and NPS, and use them to guide decisions.
- Lead go-to-market planning for your product, including packaging, positioning, and rollout sequencing.
- Take full accountability for outcomes, including wins, failures, and the trade-offs in between.
- Stay in close contact with customers through calls, site visits, and product usage sessions on a weekly basis.
- Engage buyers and end users separately so you can understand where their goals align and where they differ.
- Combine customer feedback with usage data and performance metrics, then turn those insights into prioritization and product-market fit decisions.
- Share customer and market learnings with the relevant internal teams.
- Create rapid prototypes yourself using AI-assisted development and LLM-based tooling to test ideas quickly and cheaply.
- Use prototypes as hypotheses and validate them with real customers before writing detailed specifications.
- Run structured experiments and A/B tests where appropriate, then use results to prioritize work.
- Work directly with data by defining metrics, building dashboards, querying logs, and interpreting signals yourself.
- Partner closely with engineering leaders to balance discovery, delivery, and long-term technical sustainability.
- Coordinate with GTM, Marketing, Operations, and Support so everyone understands product direction, timing, and customer impact.
- Communicate priorities and rationale clearly, especially when saying no.
- Bring the customer’s reality into internal discussions as evidence, not just as a summary.
- Design feedback loops that help you learn from both system behavior and user behavior.
- Define how success should be measured for agentic or AI-driven features, including evaluation methods, edge cases, and observable results.
- Think in terms of system-wide effects, not only isolated feature decisions.
- Contribute beyond your own product area by improving cross-product coherence, shared product principles, and overall product craft.
- Help shape what strong product ownership looks like as the team continues to scale.
What you need
- At least 5 years of experience owning complex B2B software products end to end with clear accountability for outcomes.
- Proven strength in product discovery, roadmap planning, and outcome-led prioritization in a fast-moving environment.
- A habit of building quick prototypes yourself using AI tools, LLM-assisted development, or code as the first way to test ideas.
- Comfort discussing outcomes honestly, including failures as well as successes.
- A strong analytical mindset with the ability to define metrics, build views, interpret data, and act without waiting for a dedicated analytics team.
- Enough technical depth to work credibly with engineers and understand architecture trade-offs.
- Good judgment under uncertainty, with the ability to commit, adjust course, and own the result.
- Ability to make trade-offs explicit and explain what was not chosen and why.
- Experience in B2B SaaS, API products, marketplaces, or multi-sided platform businesses is a strong advantage.
- Experience with AI-assisted product development or AI-native product features is a strong signal.
- Comfort working with feedback loops, evaluations, and system-level instrumentation.
- Background as a founder or early employee at a startup that scaled significantly is a plus.
- Experience having changed or shut down something you personally supported, with a clear explanation of why, is valued.
- Experience in automotive, logistics, or supply chain domains is a bonus.
- Experience scaling products across regions or customer segments is a bonus.
- Experience with product-led growth in a B2B context is a bonus.
- Experience building or running products with meaningful automation or agentic components is a bonus.
- Candidates who do not meet every listed requirement are still encouraged to apply if they believe they could excel in the role.
Benefits
- Healthy catered lunches are provided every workday in the Auckland, Christchurch, London, and Austin offices, along with snacks and drinks.
- Each team member receives an annual wellness allowance of $1,500 or the local equivalent on a Partly-branded card for eligible wellness-related expenses.
- Primary caregivers get 3 months of fully paid parental leave, plus a flexible return-to-work arrangement of four days per week at full pay for the first three months back.
- Employees who commute to a Partly office or coworking space can choose between a paid 24/7 parking spot or a commuting allowance.
- The offices are newly designed to support collaboration and creativity, with coffee, social spaces, and nearby cafes.
- Partly uses an office-first model in Christchurch, Auckland, London, and Austin, while still maintaining a high-trust approach that allows flexibility around personal life and scheduling.
- The company hosts regular opportunities to connect and celebrate, including weekly happy hours, monthly lunches, quarterly Season Openers, and an annual global offsite.
