Role overview
Walgreens is hiring a Shift Lead in Spanish Fort, Alabama. This full-time, on-site role supports store operations when management is unavailable and helps maintain a strong customer experience, accurate transactions, and a well-run sales floor.
What you will do
- Unlock and secure the store when leadership is not present, including starting required systems, handling opening cash procedures, preparing the sales floor and stockroom for the day, and opening the back door for deliveries.
- Process product returns, voided orders, customer refunds, cash transfers to the safe, and provide change to registers as needed.
- Support a positive shopping experience by greeting customers and patients, offering help, and resolving questions or concerns.
- Demonstrate customer service standards and coach teammates on Walgreens service behaviors and interpersonal expectations.
- Hold store keys and use them to open and close the store as required.
- Assist teammates with warehouse and vendor ordering workflows, including receiving and processing deliveries through the back door.
- Ring all assigned sales accurately and document scanning issues, price checks, missing items, price adjustments, and voids.
- Support the store manager or assistant store manager with order exceptions, reverse logistics, returns, and empty packages.
- Help develop and maintain promotional, seasonal, and sale displays, and complete resets and revisions.
- Keep inventory counts accurate across departments, stockroom, and overstock areas.
- Support the outdate process with the team.
- Handle basic pricing tasks, daily price updates, and proper signage, including any pricing work needed for local regulatory compliance.
- Assist with bookkeeping tasks such as cash reports, cash counts, ledgers, and bill payments when requested.
- Support store cleanliness, organization, appearance, and repair requests when management is absent.
- Help with proper food separation, stock rotation using FIFO, and replenishing out-of-stock items.
- Use working knowledge of store systems and equipment to support daily operations.
- Provide assistance at the pharmacy out window when needed.
- Ensure compliance with state and local rules for regulated products such as alcohol and tobacco.
- Perform team member bag checks before they leave the store.
- Follow company policies and procedures and maintain respectful working relationships.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Communicate assigned work to non-management team members when store leadership is absent and relay disciplinary concerns and customer complaints to management.
Training and development
- Attend required training sessions and complete assigned PPL modules.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of prior experience in leadership, supervision, or a retail key-holder role.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently, except where not required by law in Puerto Rico.
- Preferred: familiarity with store inventory control.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid PTCB certification or pharmacy license if required by the state.

Compensation and additional details
The pay range for this position is $17 to $20 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geography, skills, abilities, education, experience, and other relevant factors. The role stays open until filled. Benefits are available through the company benefits program.
