Utility Locator

Role overview

This is a practical, site-based opportunity for a Utility Locator to join a strong team delivering work across civil, construction, and infrastructure projects throughout Western Australia. The position focuses on the safe identification and marking of underground services, helping protect essential infrastructure, lower risk, and keep projects moving successfully.

Key duties

• Carry out on-site locating of underground utilities using electromagnetic equipment and ground-penetrating radar.
• Locate and mark underground assets such as power, water, gas, sewer, and communications services.
• Review utility maps and site drawings to support accurate detection work.
• Share findings clearly with clients, site supervisors, and project teams.
• Follow all safety, regulatory, and company requirements while working on site.
• Look after locating tools and equipment so they remain accurate and dependable.
• Prepare daily reports and complete digital records of all findings.
• Take part in safety meetings and ongoing training sessions.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate brings good communication skills, close attention to detail, a strong safety-first approach, and the ability to work without close supervision.

Previous utility locating experience or experience in a related field is preferred. A valid driver’s licence is required, with a manual licence preferred. A Construction White Card is also needed. Qualifications such as Cert III/IV in Utility Locating or DBYD Certified Locator status are helpful but not mandatory. Experience with GPR, confined space work, or gas detection will be viewed positively.

Additional information

This role is based in South Perth, Western Australia, Australia and is a full-time onsite position. The advertised salary is A$80,000 to A$100,000 per year, and the currency is AUD.
