Job description
Role overview
This position suits someone who enjoys local driving, takes pride in customer service, and wants to be part of a delivery team that plays an important part in keeping stores supplied. The job is based on a 45-hour working week and includes varied local routes, regular customer contact, and the chance to build long-term working relationships.
The schedule follows an any 5 days out of 7 pattern, so weekend shifts will be part of the rota. Overtime may also be available.
What the job involves
You will help ensure customers receive their goods on time and with a high standard of service. The role includes loading stock at the branch, delivering it to customer premises, unloading on site, and making sure all paperwork is completed correctly.
Drivers are central to the business, and this role is key to keeping customers’ shelves stocked with the products they need.
Requirements
Applicants must hold a Category C / 18T driving licence. You should have at least two years of driving experience, and experience in delivery driving is preferred. The role also requires manual delivery work, strong people skills, a positive customer-focused attitude, and a good standard of literacy and numeracy.
Benefits
The employer offers a wide range of benefits, including a colleague discount card, savings on Tesco purchases after three months of service, mobile and insurance discounts, free eye tests and optical savings, reduced pharmacy health checks, discounted breakdown cover, access to a deals and discounts website with cycle-to-work savings, an annual Save As You Earn share plan after three months, pension matching up to 5%, life assurance of up to three times annual pay, wellbeing support with a confidential employee assistance programme and virtual GP, and a generous holiday package.
About the company
Booker is a major UK food and drink wholesaler serving independent retailers, caterers, and small businesses across the country through a large network of branches, distribution centres, logistics sites, and support centres. The company says it values diversity, equity, and inclusion and aims to provide a workplace where everyone feels welcome.
Additional information
The company is open to conversations about flexible working arrangements. It also states that it is a Disability Confident Committed Leader and offers an inclusive recruitment process with accessibility support available by contacting [email protected].
Candidates must be at least 18 years old if the role involves working before 6:15 am, after 9:45 pm, or in certain areas such as the warehouse, beers, wines & spirits, and driving roles. In periods of high applicant volume, the vacancy may close earlier than the listed end date. Individual feedback is only provided to candidates who attend an interview.
Booker Group is part of Tesco plc but operates separately from the core Tesco business, so the benefits package differs from Tesco’s standard employee benefits.
