Job description
About McCormack
McCormack is a long-established, family-owned Australian building services business focused on fit-outs and refurbishments, asset repositioning, design and construct work, and heritage restoration. The company places strong importance on staff growth and wellbeing.
Role Overview
An opportunity is available for a Junior Accountant to join the Finance Team in Melbourne. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position supports month-end close, reporting, and compliance by keeping financial records accurate and up to date.
Key Duties
This position provides accounting support to the Financial Accountant and wider finance team, while also handling the organisation’s accounts payable and payroll processes from start to finish. The role also involves supplier account reconciliations, invoice handling, supplier communication, and payment forecasting and processing.
In addition, the role includes general administrative and team support as directed by the Chief Finance Officer. It is a highly administrative position that demands strong accuracy and attention to detail.
The successful candidate is expected to work independently, manage recurring deadlines, and ensure that financial, clerical, and administrative information is recorded and reported promptly and accurately.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should have a tertiary qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field such as a Diploma, Bachelor degree, or equivalent. They must also have at least 3 years of experience in bookkeeping or general accounting.
Strong negotiation ability, confidence in handling difficult discussions, and excellent attention to detail are essential. The role requires someone who can work with minimal supervision, prioritise overlapping demands, and take full responsibility for tasks until completion.
A dependable work history is important, along with a strong commitment to regular deadlines such as payroll processing, BAS, month-end reporting, and year-end reporting. Candidates should also have mature and professional interpersonal skills, good judgement when dealing with confidential or sensitive information, strong analytical and problem-solving ability, excellent communication skills, familiarity with accounting software, and a solid understanding of end-to-end accounts payable and payroll procedures.
What the Company Offers
You will join a friendly, supportive, close-knit team where your practical accounting experience, analytical thinking, and ability to work independently will be appreciated.
Equal Opportunity and Work Eligibility
McCormack is an equal opportunity employer and encourages First Nations applicants to apply. The company values the different perspectives, approaches, and strengths that people bring to the workplace. Candidates must have the legal right to live and work in Australia for this role.
