Job Purpose
The Firefighter will be responsible for handling aircraft and building fire emergencies, medical incidents, hazardous material situations, and other emergencies within airport premises. The position plays a critical role in protecting passengers, crew, airport staff, and property through firefighting, rescue support, and emergency medical response.
Key Responsibilities
The role includes fast response to emergencies, active fire suppression, emergency medical assistance, operational preparedness, compliance reporting, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Emergency Response
- Act quickly in response to aircraft-related incidents, structural fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material events, and other emergencies across the airport area.
- Carry out firefighting, rescue support, and emergency medical assistance to protect people and assets.
Fire Suppression
- Control and extinguish fires using suitable methods and agents such as water, foam, dry chemicals, and other firefighting tools.
- Carry out search and rescue work in smoky, dangerous, and otherwise challenging conditions.
Emergency Medical Services
- Deliver first aid and basic life support until more advanced medical help reaches the scene.
- Support patient transfer to healthcare facilities when required.
Operational Readiness
- Inspect and maintain firefighting vehicles, extinguishers, and personal protective equipment every day.
- Track firefighting materials and equipment inventory and keep all resources ready for immediate deployment.
- Take part in emergency simulations, ICAO-mandated training programs, and fire drills.
- Keep accurate records such as incident reports, training logs, and shift notes for audit and regulatory use.
Compliance and Reporting
- Follow all applicable local, state, and national rules, along with standard operating procedures for firefighting and emergency response.
- Spot hazards during patrols and inspections and ensure corrective action is taken without delay.
- Prepare and submit precise incident documentation, equipment logs, and other required records.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with airport operations, medical teams, and outside emergency responders during incidents.
- Coordinate with the Duty Manager, ATC, and airport authorities during emergency operations and training exercises.
Stakeholders
Internal: Duty Manager - ARFF, Airport Operations Team, Airport Security, Emergency Medical Services, ARFF Crew Members, Engineering & Maintenance Team, and the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Team.
External: Local Fire Services Department, airlines operating at the airport, ground handling companies, ARFF equipment manufacturers/service providers, insurance companies, local community leaders, and civil aviation authorities.
Qualifications
A Diploma in Fire Fighting Technology or an equivalent qualification is required, along with certification from an accredited firefighting academy.
Experience
The role requires 2 to 3 years of firefighting experience, preferably in aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) operations.
