Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is a four-star hotel set on the edge of Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown, with 273 guest rooms, meeting spaces, and scenic dining views from Elements Restaurant. Its central location places it in one of the world’s best-known tourist destinations.

Role Summary

The hotel is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant Front Office Manager to join the leadership team. This role works closely with the Front Office Manager to run the front office function each day, deliver outstanding guest service, and help ensure the team meets performance goals, profitability targets, and brand expectations.

Key Responsibilities

You will support the smooth running of the Front Office, Concierge, and Night Audit functions, while helping lead the team and maintain service quality across all guest touchpoints.

  • Support the daily management of Front Office, Concierge, and Night Audit operations so service remains efficient and seamless.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and training to sustain strong performance, team engagement, and service excellence.
  • Coordinate and track hotel service delivery to uphold brand standards during arrivals, departures, and guest communication.
  • Address guest concerns and service recovery matters with professionalism and a strong focus on guest satisfaction.
  • Monitor budgets and control expenses to stay within revenue, labour, and operating cost targets.
  • Assist with planning, forecasting, and improvement initiatives alongside the Front Office Manager.
  • Be available to work a rotating schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant will bring leadership experience in hotel operations and be comfortable handling a busy front office environment. Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving ability are essential, along with the confidence to manage difficult situations calmly and professionally.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role in hotel operations or hospitality, such as Front Office, Reservations, or Rooms Division.
  • Familiarity with hotel management systems is preferred, especially Opera Cloud.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office is an advantage.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, including the ability to coach, motivate, and develop a varied team.
  • Excellent communication and organisational capabilities.
  • Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to stay composed under pressure.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is NZD 68,000 to NZD 70,000 per year.
