Candidate Profile

The role is suited to applicants with either a high school diploma or GED plus 2 years of experience in human resources, management operations, or a related professional field, or a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline with no prior work experience required.

Recruitment and Hiring Support

The assistant manager helps run the recruiting and selection process, including interviewing and hiring HR team members when needed. The role also involves maintaining relationships with external recruiting sources, attending job fairs, documenting outreach efforts as per standard operating procedures, and working with local organizations such as hotel associations and peer networks to source talent for current and future openings. Quality checks on candidate identification and selection are also part of the job.

Benefits and Unemployment Support

This position supports unemployment-related administration by working with the unemployment services provider, reviewing reports for accuracy, correcting errors, preparing activity reports, and attending hearings when necessary to ensure proper representation.

Training and Employee Development

The role helps plan and deliver new-hire orientation and departmental onboarding so employees receive the training they need to perform well. It also supports cross-training efforts, coordinates orientation sessions, encourages leadership participation, and helps create a strong first impression that reinforces the importance of guest service in the company culture.

Employee Relations

This role assists with internal communication channels, including daily updates and property-wide meetings. It also reviews disciplinary records for accuracy and consistency, ensures supporting documentation is in place, uses an open-door approach to address employee concerns quickly, and escalates issues to the appropriate manager or HR director when required. In addition, the role may support accident investigations with Loss Prevention and help communicate performance expectations based on job descriptions.

Compliance, Records, and Safety

The assistant manager helps ensure employee files are complete, secure, and retained for the required period, while also supporting access reviews and audits in line with privacy requirements. The role includes keeping medical records separate and confidential, facilitating drug testing where applicable, sharing workplace rules through the employee handbook, and regularly reinforcing safety and security policies such as property removal, lost and found handling, blood-borne pathogen practices, accident reporting, and hygiene. The position may also assist with claims reviews and workers’ compensation administration to support timely closure and cost control.
