About the Organization

The Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA), established in 1891, is a nonprofit organization that supports and helps fund varsity athletics for midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy, following Academy leadership policy. Its broad intercollegiate sports program gives every midshipman a chance to compete at the Division I level, and it reflects the Academy’s focus on developing midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically.

Role Overview

The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for Women’s Basketball will provide coaching, instruction, and program support focused on conditioning, resistance training, mobility, recovery, motivation, and athlete development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and carry out strength and conditioning plans for assigned teams across preseason, in-season, and offseason periods using evidence-based methods.
  • Partner with sports medicine and athletic training personnel to support rehabilitation and rebuilding strength for injured athletes.
  • Help maintain strong coordination between sport coaches, sports medicine staff, and the strength and conditioning team.
  • Develop and apply program policies and operating procedures aligned with Naval Academy standards and expectations.
  • Build tracking systems with sport coaches to monitor athlete attendance and progress.
  • Maintain a personal fitness and wellness lifestyle that aligns with Naval Academy guidance.
  • Complete annual needs assessments for each sport team together with the sport coach and athletic trainer after the season ends.
  • Set and reinforce athlete behavior standards that reflect the Academy’s student-athlete conduct code.
  • Finish required training and educational programs as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Human Performance. A master’s degree is preferred. At least 2 years of collegiate or professional strength and conditioning coaching experience is preferred. Applicants must hold one of the following certifications: CSCS from NSCA or SCCC from CSCCa. Current CPR and AED certifications are also required.

Skills and Abilities

The role calls for strong communication, customer service, organization, motivation, and teaching ability, along with solid knowledge of strength training methods and technique. Candidates should be comfortable using basic computer tools, including Excel and strength software, and should be able to communicate clearly in writing and speaking. The ability to model and demonstrate proper training techniques and to work effectively with student-athletes, colleagues, and the public is important.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship, eligible to work on a military installation, and willing to complete a background screening. A valid driver’s license is required. This is an in-person role.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The job involves monitoring athletes visually and performing physical tasks such as sitting, standing, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment or boxes up to 50 pounds. Work may take place in varied noise, temperature, and air-quality conditions, across surfaces such as concrete, grass, hardwood, and rubber flooring. Duties include both indoor and outdoor work. The position requires flexibility, patience, self-direction, the ability to handle interruptions, and the ability to work under stressful conditions. Evening and weekend hours are expected.

Compensation

Pay range: $54,000 to $65,000 per year.
