About the Company

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is a Silicon Valley venture capital firm founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz. The firm supports ambitious founders using technology to shape the future and manages more than $100 billion across several funds. Its portfolio includes companies such as Affirm, Airbnb, Coinbase, Databricks, Figma, GitHub, Instacart, Pinterest, Roblox, Stripe, and Substack.

a16z speedrun is the firm’s program for backing and supporting early-stage startups. It runs twice a year, lasts 12 weeks, and brings dozens of startups into a16z’s San Francisco and Los Angeles offices. To date, the program has backed more than 150 startups and deployed over $180 million in capital.

Role Overview

The firm is hiring an Associate for its Capital Network team, focused on the Consumer, AI Apps, and Speedrun verticals. This group advises portfolio companies on fundraising, M&A, strategic investments, and capital markets transactions. The role is intended to create meaningful impact for portfolio companies, investment teams, and operating teams through close cross-functional partnership.

This is an in-office position based in San Francisco, CA, requiring attendance five days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise Consumer, AI Apps, and Speedrun portfolio companies on transaction-related work, including equity and debt fundraising, as well as M&A support, alongside Capital Network partners.
  • Build and review valuation models to support investment decisions and acquisition processes.
  • Help run financing processes, strategic initiatives, and portfolio-level analyses.
  • Create presentation and briefing materials for internal stakeholders, external audiences, and portfolio companies to support decision-making and execution.
  • Carry out primary research independently or with other internal teams to surface insights on market shifts and industry trends.
  • Perform detailed company, sector, portfolio, and benchmarking analyses.
  • Track and strengthen relationships across the wider capital ecosystem, including venture firms, growth equity investors, debt providers, and strategic partners.

Requirements

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in corporate finance within technology-focused sectors.
  • Background in areas such as corporate development, technology-sector investment banking, M&A product work, management consulting, or similar finance roles with strong exposure to fundraising and M&A.
  • Strong grasp of the venture landscape, including new trends and how different sources of capital compete.
  • Ability to build credibility quickly with teammates, founders, and external capital partners.
  • A collaborative style marked by low ego, empathy, and comfort working with diverse groups.
  • Capacity to juggle multiple priorities, think through ambiguity, bring new ideas, and deliver reliably in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills, along with strong attention to detail and executive presence.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and ability to handle multiple workstreams at once.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a technical discipline is preferred, though not mandatory.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected base salary for this role is between $184,000 and $214,000. Actual starting pay may differ depending on experience, skills, and the scope of the role.

This position is also eligible for the a16z carry program, discretionary bonus programs, and benefits such as health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, plus a 401(k) plan, vacation, and sick leave.

Culture

  • We do only first class business and only in a first class way.
  • We value long-term relationships because our business is built on relationships.
  • We believe in the future and make firm-level bets accordingly.
  • We recognize and value differences, and we win because of them.
