Baker's Helper

Role overview

Safeway, part of Sobeys Inc., is hiring a Baker’s Helper for its New Westminster, British Columbia store. In this position, you will support the bakery team in creating fresh breads, pastries, cookies, muffins, and other baked goods while helping maintain a welcoming in-store experience for customers.

This opening is in store operations within the bakery area at the 4917 McBride Safeway location in New Westminster, BC, Canada.

What you will do

• Follow company procedures, standards, and policies consistently in every work situation.
• Welcome customers politely and maintain a friendly, service-focused approach.
• Deliver the level of customer care expected under Safeway programs.
• Operate bakery equipment such as mixers, commercial ovens, and donut fryers.
• Clean and sanitize bakery tools and equipment.
• Help with order writing and related bakery record-keeping.
• Take part in daily preparation and production of baked items.
• Receive bakery products and rotate stock correctly.
• Stock and replenish bakery display cases and showcases.

• Previous experience is helpful, but not essential.
• Quick learning ability and willingness to adapt.
• Comfort working in a busy, fast-moving environment.
• Strong teamwork mindset and self-motivation.
• Clear communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Excellent customer service attitude.
• Commitment to working safely and responsibly.
• Availability for flexible scheduling.
• Evening and weekend availability is strongly preferred.
• Ability to be scheduled any time on Sunday applies for Alberta only.

Physical demands

• Regular lifting of up to 20 pounds.
• Frequent bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, and hand coordination.
• Occasional lifting of 20 to 50 pounds, including low-level and waist-level lifting.
• Constant standing, walking, gripping, and reaching.
