Job description

About the Role

WorkSafeNB is seeking a Bilingual Benefit Payment Agent for a temporary, full-time, 18-month casual position. While the primary workspace is a home office, occasional in-person meetings are expected, making remote work outside of New Brunswick or Canada not permissible. Reporting to the Team Lead of Benefit Payment Services, this role involves calculating benefits, allowances, and awards for injured workers, including wage reviews, long-term assessments, and Permanent Physical Impairment (PPI) awards. You will analyze income data from various sources, apply relevant policies, and ensure accurate loss of earnings calculations. Strong communication is vital for collaborating with internal teams and external parties like employers, injured workers, and third-party representatives. The position also requires ensuring adherence to internal guidelines and resolving payment discrepancies.

Salary and Hours of Work

The standard work week is a minimum of 35 hours, with specific hours falling between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. The hourly rate for this position is $30.28, with CUPE 1866 employees starting at Step 1 of the pay band.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial benefit calculations, including 12-week wage reviews, annual assessments, and long-term disability evaluations.

  • Process Gradual Return to Work evaluations and apply TD1 exemptions.
  • Manage calculations related to Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPPD) and employer disability insurance (e.g., Sunlife).
  • Assess how CPPD, employer disability benefits, and other supplemental incomes impact WorkSafeNB's loss of earnings calculations.
  • Process various payment types including internet payments, regular loss of earnings (RLOE), salary adjustments, and inter-jurisdictional payments.
  • Proactively identify and rectify any missed payments.
  • Gather wage and income information from sources like the Canada Revenue Agency, T4 slips, and Records of Employment.
  • Review and analyze collected documents for accuracy and completeness to support loss of earnings calculations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as Managers, Team Leads, Benefit Payment Specialists, Claims Adjudicators, Case Managers, Medical Aid and Disability Coordinators, and Quality Management Services.
  • Liaise with employers, injured workers, and third-party representatives (e.g., disability insurers, Employment Insurance, Social Development).
  • Maintain proactive and transparent communication with all stakeholders to enhance collaboration and service delivery.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned based on operational needs or project requirements.

Qualifications

  • Possess a one-year post-secondary diploma or certificate in office administration, business, or a related field.
  • Have at least one year of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Case Management systems, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Exhibit strong mathematical and analytical abilities for accurate benefit calculations, income source interpretation, and policy application.
