The company is looking for a meticulous Bid Writer to produce persuasive, accurate, and fully compliant tender submissions for civil engineering and construction work. This position plays an important part in winning new business and improving the organisation’s market position by partnering with teams across the business to develop tailored bid content that clearly presents technical strengths, delivery methods, and quality standards.
Bid preparation and document production
- Create, assemble, and lay out bid submissions for civil construction opportunities, making sure every required component is present and matches the client brief and tender instructions.
- Adapt proposal content to suit each project’s scope, including schedules, costs, delivery approaches, and quality expectations.
- Confirm that all submissions comply with the legal, regulatory, and technical requirements set by the client or relevant authorities.
Research and information collection
- Work with project managers, engineers, estimators, and other cross-functional colleagues to gather current and reliable project information.
- Investigate project-specific details such as site conditions, work scope, and client preferences.
- Keep up to date with industry developments, pricing trends, and competitor activity to help strengthen tender competitiveness.
Supplier and stakeholder coordination
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotes, pricing data, and technical details needed for bid preparation.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication between all teams involved in the bid process so that information stays accurate and aligned.
Quality control and compliance
- Check all bid materials for clarity, consistency, and alignment with tender requirements.
- Ensure the information submitted supports the company’s position as a dependable and competitive contractor.
Experience and qualifications
The ideal candidate will have prior experience writing bids in an infrastructure, construction, or technical writing setting, along with hands-on exposure to construction or civil engineering tender processes and project information gathering. Success in this role also requires a strong record of working with engineers, estimators, and project managers, as well as delivering clear, accurate written work under tight deadlines. A relevant third-level qualification in journalism, English, creative writing, or a similar discipline is preferred. Strong writing and editing ability, the capacity to turn technical detail into persuasive content, excellent organisation, high attention to detail, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and solid research and analytical skills are all important.
