About the employer

Busways focuses on customer service, stakeholder engagement and employee growth. The business has operated for more than 80 years and currently delivers bus services across Western Sydney, the North Shore and West, the Central Coast and North Coast, as well as Adelaide’s Outer South. Its workforce exceeds 2,800 people, supporting more than 53.7 million passenger journeys each year.

Working pattern

Drivers need to be flexible and available for a variety of shifts, including weekends, early starts and late finishes. Many full-time shifts are split shifts, designed to cover peak travel periods in the morning and afternoon.

  • Morning split-shift window: 6:00am to 10:00am
  • Afternoon split-shift window: 2:00pm to 6:00pm

During the break between split shifts, drivers can leave the depot to go home or run errands, or remain on site and use driver facilities. Some straight shifts may also be available, with start times in the morning, afternoon or evening. All depots run seven days a week, and work on Sundays and public holidays is voluntary overtime.

Who can apply

This opportunity is open to people interested in becoming bus drivers. A current unrestricted driver’s licence is required, while a Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid licence is preferred but not mandatory. Applicants should also have a solid driving record, good communication skills and strong customer service ability. Candidates must be prepared to complete a pre-employment medical assessment, criminal history check and Working With Children Check.

A current NSW Driver Authority is strongly preferred, or applicants must be willing to obtain one. If a suitable applicant does not yet have the required licence or authority, Busways may provide a free licence upgrade for eligible applicants, paid induction and mentor training, and assistance with the Driver Authority course and application process.

Equal opportunity statement

Busways states that it is an equal opportunity employer and aims to reflect the diversity of the communities it serves. Applications are encouraged from all people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and candidates from diverse social, cultural and gender backgrounds.
