Job description
About the Role
Ventia is looking for a relationship-focused Business Development Manager to join its New Zealand team. This is an entry-level position for someone who already has a strong professional network and a genuine interest in customer engagement and delivering results.
You will work directly with clients to create business opportunities and lead bid activity, usually for opportunities valued at under $10M per year or under $20M in total. The role involves managing opportunities from start to finish, building customer confidence, developing solutions, and looking after accounts with an emphasis on long-term value and repeat business.
To do well here, you’ll need to establish credibility quickly, form trusted relationships, show real commitment to customer needs, and provide organised, high-quality engagement that strengthens confidence and delivers value.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and move forward new opportunities that fit Ventia’s strategic priorities.
- Take ownership of bid activity when dedicated bid resources are not available.
- Create commercially sound and practical solutions that address customer requirements.
- Develop and nurture strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
- Manage accounts to support customer satisfaction, retention, and business growth.
- Run customer discussions in a clear, confident, and engaging way.
- Work with internal teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality outcomes.
- Travel throughout New Zealand as needed.
About You
You are an early-career professional who enjoys building connections and delivering outcomes that matter to customers. You communicate well, carry yourself confidently, and build trust naturally through your approach.
What You Will Bring
- A strong network in New Zealand telecommunications is helpful, though it is not mandatory.
- Some background in infrastructure, telecommunications, or a similar environment.
- A customer-first approach that focuses on outcomes rather than only on tasks or projects.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage stakeholders effectively.
- The ability to drive processes, manage opportunities, and remain organised.
- A collaborative, adaptable mindset and a willingness to learn and develop.
Development Opportunity
This role is a chance for someone who wants to grow into a future leader through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on development.
