Role overview

Howard K Bell Engineers Inc is seeking a CAD Designer to support engineering work on water, wastewater, stormwater, and site development projects. The role centers on producing precise drawings, helping turn design ideas into buildable plans, and working closely with engineers and project managers to keep deliverables on track.

What you will do

  • Work with engineers and project managers to prepare detailed, accurate CAD drawings for water, wastewater, stormwater, and site development assignments.
  • Support the creation and rollout of design ideas and plan sets.
  • Make sure drawings and documentation align with project specifications and applicable industry standards.
  • Analyze engineering sketches, drawings, and technical specifications to translate them into usable CAD output.
  • Visit project sites when needed and collect field information that supports the design process.
  • Join project discussions and provide technical assistance across the team.
  • Use CAD platforms and associated tools efficiently to produce clear drawings and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with coworkers so deadlines and project deliverables are met.

Experience and education

  • A 2-year Technical or Vocational School CAD Design Certificate or an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology is required.
  • At least 5 years of CAD design experience is needed, preferably with water and wastewater work.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and other CAD applications is expected.
  • A solid grasp of engineering fundamentals and design standards is important.
  • Good communication and collaborative teamwork skills are necessary.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks and manage time well in a busy environment is essential.
  • You should be careful with details and committed to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
  • Understanding of regulations and guidance related to water and wastewater infrastructure design is preferred.
  • Experience on site development projects would be an advantage.

This is a full-time onsite position based in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
