Job overview

This role is for a Captain on the A320 fleet based in Dammam, Eastern, Saudi Arabia. The captain is responsible for operating assigned flights in line with the airline’s operational manual and all applicable civil aviation regulations. The position focuses on maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and operational efficiency while also supporting the cockpit and cabin teams, managing emergencies and unusual situations, and representing the airline professionally throughout every flight.

Core duties

  • Operate the assigned aircraft between destinations according to approved schedules and flight plans, with safety as the top priority, followed by efficiency and passenger comfort.
  • Ensure every flight is conducted in full compliance with the airline’s operations manual and all relevant regulatory requirements, while maintaining smooth and safe flight operations.
  • Arrive on time for duties, maintain appropriate grooming and fitness standards, and confirm the legality and readiness of the flight crew. Lead the pre-flight briefing and make sure all required information is clearly communicated before each stage of operation.
  • Coordinate closely with the First Officer, Second Officer, and Dispatch team before departure so the crew is fully briefed on aircraft condition, route considerations, weather, fuel, load distribution, and role assignments.
  • Manage the flight in a fuel-efficient manner, within safety limits and in accordance with approved operating procedures.
  • Verify that all required safety, security, fuel, and transit checks are completed before, during, and after the flight, and direct the crew on the correct response to any irregularity or escalation.
  • Work with Maintenance Engineers to confirm the aircraft is technically fit to fly, and involve MCC and MRO support when concerns, defects, or corrective actions need to be addressed.
  • Ensure all operational and technical records are completed accurately, including the technical logbook, journey book, boarding sheets, and relevant reports.
  • Keep the Airline Operations Manual distributed, controlled, current, understood, and followed by the flight crew.
  • Stay current on the requirements of aviation regulators, Airbus, and any other applicable authorities related to flight operations and crew conduct.
  • Perform additional ground responsibilities such as Safety Officer or Security Officer duties when assigned by management and permitted under the airline manual.

Qualifications and skills

  • A valid ATPL is mandatory.
  • Candidate must clear the technical and psychometric pilot assessments required by the airline and aviation authority.
  • Medical fitness clearance for pilots is required.
  • Training in safety and emergency response is necessary; formal certification is an advantage.
  • Basic training in airport and security procedures is beneficial.
  • Crew Resource Management training is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of IATA security principles and standards is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of aircraft systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills are needed, including technical reporting and presentations.
  • Very good English language skills are required; knowledge of local languages in the country of employment is a plus.

Work experience

  • At least 4,000 flying hours are required.
  • Experience on the Airbus A320 is preferred.
  • Background in a low-cost airline environment is highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of aircraft systems and operating procedures is expected.
  • Ability to take on additional responsibilities such as safety or security-related duties is required.
  • Exposure to QA, safety, security, and audit processes related to flight operations is an advantage.
  • Ability to implement approved policies, procedures, and manuals in line with standards and regulations is needed.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic environment with demanding schedules and unexpected situations.
  • Calm, confident, and focused approach to handling emergencies and threats is essential.
  • Strong analytical ability, cost awareness, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are required.
  • High attention to accuracy, results, and operational details is important.
  • Must use technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills to support company objectives.
  • Ability to contribute to business strategy and deliver against KPIs is expected.
