Role Overview

Applications are invited for an energetic, committed, and enthusiastic Care Assistant to join the team at the designated centre in Crossroads. The ideal candidate will be motivated, imaginative, and genuinely interested in supporting people each day. This role suits someone who is self-directed, focused, and consistently person-centred.

Working patterns are variable and may include day shifts, evenings, weekends, sleepovers, and night duty as needed. All contracts are directly with the service.

Key Duties

  • Support the delivery of a person-centred service that reflects each individual’s goals and preferences.
  • Safeguard the rights of the people supported while maintaining dignity, choice, and privacy.
  • Encourage new interests and help individuals build meaningful community roles and connections.
  • Promote overall wellbeing, including support with health needs and personal care.
  • Work effectively with behaviours that challenge.
  • Manage risk and complete or contribute to risk assessments.
  • Use alternative communication methods where needed.
  • Maintain strong organisation, communication, IT, and report-writing standards.
  • Handle confidential information in a careful, discreet, and responsible way.
  • Operate in line with HIQA regulations and standards, as well as the New Directions framework.

Requirements

  • At least QQI Level 5 in Health Care Support or Social Care is required; a diploma or degree in Social Care or a related field is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience supporting people with an intellectual disability.
  • Full, clean driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles.
  • Availability to work day, evening, weekend, sleepover, and night-duty shifts.
  • Ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, planning, and organisational skills.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay, with enhanced rates for Sundays, public holidays, and waking night shifts.
  • Free Garda vetting.
  • Structured induction and ongoing in-house professional development.
  • Pro-rata annual leave entitlement.
  • Defined contribution pension scheme.
  • Sick leave pay.
  • Career development and progression opportunities.
  • Employee discounts at St. Aidan's Garden Centre.
  • Benefits remain subject to eligibility and conditions and are not exhaustive.
