Job description
Role overview
Cheshire Ireland is hiring two part-time Care Support Workers for Abbey View Cheshire Services in County Sligo. This is a permanent part-time position with two separate 22-hour contracts. The organisation works with adults who have physical, sensory, and neurological disabilities, supporting people with medium to high levels of need.
About the organisation
Cheshire Ireland delivers personalised support that helps adults meet physical, emotional, and social care needs in a setting that encourages independence, dignity, rights, and overall well-being. The service environment is described as friendly, collaborative, and positive, with busy residential and community-based support provision.
What the role involves
The successful candidate will assist people with everyday living in line with each person’s individual requirements and personal plan. The focus of the role is to support people to live as independently and meaningfully as possible while building respectful, equal relationships that protect dignity, rights, and choice. Work must align with Cheshire Ireland’s values, working approach, and standards.
Working style
The service follows a “one person at a time” approach and expects team members to provide rights-based, person-centred support. The role requires a willingness to adapt, contribute to ongoing service improvement, and support a culture of learning and change.
Candidate profile
Applicants should be energetic, enthusiastic, highly motivated, creative, and genuinely interested in engaging with the people supported day to day. A strong commitment to personal and professional development is important, along with integrity, trustworthiness, a positive outlook, and a willingness to embrace change.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should hold, or be working towards, at least QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support, QQI Level 6 in Social Care, or a Nursing qualification. Experience supporting people with disabilities is required. Candidates without formal qualifications may still be considered if they are prepared to complete QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support within 18 months of starting the role.
Other requirements
A full manual driving licence is required or must be actively being pursued, along with a willingness to drive for work. The post requires availability across a 24-hour, seven-day roster. Strong spoken and written English, good interpersonal and communication skills, computer literacy, and eligibility to work in Ireland are also essential. Experience using online care management systems would be an advantage.
Salary and benefits
The salary range is €34,100.68 to €39,625.68 per year, pro-rated according to hours worked and dependent on experience. Unsocial hours attract premium payments. Additional benefits include flexible working hours, career development opportunities, induction and ongoing training through Cheshire Academy, free on-site parking, sick pay, pension scheme, maternity benefit, bike-to-work scheme, employee assistance programme, death-in-service benefit for pension members, employee referral scheme, QQI training programme, welcome packs, and employee discounts.
Compliance and checks
Cheshire Ireland is an equal opportunity employer. Successful candidates will need Garda National Vetting Bureau clearance and must provide security clearance for every jurisdiction outside the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland where they have lived for six months or more from the age of 16.
