Job Summary
Carnival Corporation is seeking a skilled Carpenter for their global destination in East Grand Bahama, The Bahamas. The role involves constructing, installing, and repairing various structures and fixtures using wood, plastic, and other materials. This position requires precision, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The Carpenter will also be responsible for reporting, documentation, and ensuring compliance with company policies and building codes.
Responsibilities
- Construct and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes.
- Hang drywall and assist with wall and ceiling framing.
- Install, maintain, and repair wood, tile, and vinyl flooring, as well as cabinets, insulation, tile, and drywall.
- Build and install doors, cabinets, shelving, and windows.
- Measure, cut, shape, and alter wood, plastic, and other materials according to project specifications.
- Assemble structural components accurately.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively for carpentry tasks.
- Assist with the demolition of existing structures when required.
- Ensure all installations comply with building codes and project requirements.
- Create detailed construction reports, update logs, and track project progress.
- Document repairs, materials used, and labor hours accurately.
- Maintain organized project records and documentation.
- Adhere to strict project timelines and promptly communicate any delays or issues.
- Review plans and blueprints to understand work requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and regulatory standards.
- Participate in project meetings, providing updates and feedback.
- Assist in estimating time, materials, and labor for assigned tasks.
- Perform work in accordance with safety best practices and OSHA guidelines.
- Conduct building inspections to identify necessary repairs.
- Inspect worksites before starting tasks to ensure safety.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe, working condition and report any malfunctions.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Participate in safety meetings and required training.
- Keep work areas clean and free of hazards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of three (3) years of general carpentry experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Completion of an apprenticeship is a plus.
- Proficiency with power tools used for cutting, shaping, and joining wood.
- Ability to interpret blueprints accurately.
- Strong woodworking specialization.
- Excellent attention to detail and understanding of safety importance.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
- Physical strength and good communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- All island employees must be physically capable of participating in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills, requiring full use of arms, legs, and full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data entry and reporting tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to think critically and make sound decisions.
- Strong planning and coordination skills, especially under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment as needed.
- Willingness to work a shift schedule as required at the destinations.
- Adherence to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to health, safety, environmental protection, and security.
