About the Role

The Johnstown Estate is looking for a C&B Night Porter to support conference and banqueting operations during evening and overnight hours. This position is focused on delivering smooth event transitions, maintaining high presentation standards, and ensuring guests experience warm, professional service at all times.

Key Duties

  • Set up, reset, and dismantle conference and banqueting rooms to match event layouts such as theatre, classroom, cabaret, boardroom, and banquet styles.
  • Safely move, position, and store furniture, staging, linen, and other event equipment.
  • Prepare meeting and function spaces so they are ready for the next day’s events in line with the property’s presentation and brand expectations.
  • Support late-night and early-morning room changes to keep event handovers running smoothly.
  • Assist guests and delegates during evening or overnight functions whenever needed.
  • Maintain a polite, professional, and service-oriented approach throughout the shift.
  • Handle guest and department requests quickly and efficiently during the night.
  • Keep conference and banqueting areas, storerooms, corridors, and back-of-house spaces clean and orderly.
  • Flag maintenance issues, damage, or safety risks to the Night Manager or Director of C&B Operations.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned properly, stored correctly, and kept in working order.
  • Follow hotel health, safety, manual handling, and equipment-use procedures at all times.
  • Keep fire exits and walkways free from any obstruction.
  • Follow security requirements and support emergency response procedures when necessary.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant has prior experience in a similar role within a 4-star or luxury hotel setting, with a strong eye for detail and pride in high standards of presentation and service. You should be dependable, prompt, comfortable working on your own or with others, and able to stay composed in a busy environment. A flexible approach is needed, including willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
