Job description
About the Role
Shape the future of the Larrakia Development Corporation (LDC) by merging commercial leadership with profound cultural impact to foster enduring prosperity for the Larrakia people. This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior executive to combine business acumen with significant community engagement, creating a lasting legacy for future generations. LDC, a premier Aboriginal-owned commercial entity, operates as the Trustee of the Larrakia Development Trust, dedicated to generating business and employment prospects for Larrakia individuals while advancing sustainable economic independence. Their core mission is to be a leading provider of quality projects and services, fostering employment, education, and economic support for the Larrakia community.
With a team of approximately 50 employees, LDC's operations span property management, labor hire, trade services, and property development. They are also developing the significant Larrakia Cultural Centre in Darwin. These initiatives exemplify LDC's unique capacity to promote cultural pride and achieve long-term economic benefits.
Reporting to an actively involved Board, the Chief Executive will be responsible for strategic direction, driving growth, and upholding governance standards. This role offers a dynamic and fulfilling experience, involving consultations with Traditional Owners and families, negotiations with government and commercial partners, and collaborative efforts with the team to develop new ventures.
About You
You are a seasoned senior executive, ideally with experience in sectors such as infrastructure, construction, resources, or manufacturing, possessing a proven track record in growing businesses that successfully balance purpose with profit. You have experience working closely with Boards, navigating governmental and regulatory landscapes, and building commercially successful organizations that also serve their communities. Comfortable in both corporate and on-site environments, you excel at building relationships, demonstrating cultural awareness, business insight, and the ability to align diverse stakeholders around a unified vision. You are also an adept leader, capable of inspiring, mentoring, and developing staff at all levels.
Tertiary qualifications in business, finance, engineering, or a related discipline would be advantageous, as would previous experience working with Aboriginal organizations or communities. Above all, you will be driven by the opportunity to create a legacy that brings prosperity and pride to the Larrakia people.
