Role Overview
The Chief Operating Officer is a full-time remote leadership position focused on running daily operations and turning the company’s strategic and business priorities into effective execution. This role manages core operational areas such as business processes, service delivery, and operational risk, while working closely with the CEO and senior leaders to keep operations aligned with organizational goals. It also requires close attention to performance metrics, workflow improvement, compliance obligations, budget control, and cross-functional coordination across technology, finance, underwriting, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct everyday operational activity and make sure business plans are carried out efficiently.
- Oversee critical functions including process management, service execution, and operational risk controls.
- Work alongside the CEO and leadership team to align operating priorities with broader business objectives.
- Track and evaluate key performance indicators to identify issues and improve results.
- Streamline workflows and implement continuous process enhancements.
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and governance standards.
- Lead enterprise-wide initiatives that involve multiple teams and functions.
- Manage operating budgets, resources, and cost discipline.
- Partner with technology, finance, underwriting, and customer service teams to improve efficiency and client experience.
- Build strong teams, reinforce accountability, and support a culture of innovation and ongoing improvement.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability in business planning and converting strategic goals into practical operating plans.
- Solid background in operations leadership, process optimization, complex project delivery, and cross-functional team management.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to use data and metrics to guide decisions and performance gains.
- Experience with budgeting, financial control, and operating cost management.
- Substantial senior leadership experience in insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry is strongly preferred.
- Comfort working in a remote, distributed environment with excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Knowledge of risk management, governance, and regulatory compliance, ideally in insurance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Management, or a related discipline; an MBA or similar professional credential is considered a plus.
