Role overview

Higgins Wellington is seeking a skilled, safety-conscious Class 5 Driver to support civil infrastructure work across the Wellington region. The position involves operating heavy trucks, plant, and machinery to help deliver projects efficiently and safely. If you enjoy outdoor work, take pride in careful equipment handling, and want to contribute to a strong team environment, this role could be a great fit.

Key duties

  • Drive Class 5 trucks and operate plant and machinery when needed.
  • Transport products, equipment, and machinery to project locations in a safe and timely way.
  • Load, unload, and secure cargo correctly for transit.
  • Maintain accurate delivery papers, logbooks, weight documentation, and inspection records.
  • Carry out pre-start inspections and routine preventive maintenance checks.
  • Make sure vehicles, plant, and equipment remain properly licensed and compliant.
  • Report faults, maintenance needs, incidents, and hazards without delay.
  • Work in line with company procedures, technical requirements, and accepted industry standards.
  • Interact professionally with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and the public.
  • Assist project teams with other operational tasks as required.

What we're looking for

  • A current Class 5 licence with W, T, and R endorsements.
  • Hands-on experience with heavy vehicles and/or construction plant and machinery.
  • The ability to follow instructions, plans, schedules, and procedures accurately.
  • A strong focus on health, safety, and safe operating practices.
  • Clear communication and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • The ability to perform well under pressure and keep to project timelines.
  • A professional attitude and a dependable work ethic.
  • D endorsement and spill kit training are preferred.
  • Knowledge of civil construction equipment and plant is an advantage.
