About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for an NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainer to join the Torbay and South Devon (TSD) Clinical Coding Team. This role is crucial for delivering a comprehensive training program for Clinical Coding trainees and apprentices, as well as supporting the continuous professional development of the existing coding workforce. The position involves promoting high-quality clinical coding practices throughout the Trust and assisting colleagues in enhancing their understanding of coding standards and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess significant NHS experience, strong communication abilities, and effective leadership skills. Applicants must be NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainers. Consideration will also be given to candidates who have secured a place on the NHS England 2026/27 Clinical Coding Training Programme (CCTP) Assessment Day (scheduled for June 26th).

About the Clinical Coding Department
The Clinical Coding Department at Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust is integral to our healthcare system. We are responsible for accurately converting patient information into codes essential for billing, research, and service planning. Our work directly influences the Trust's ability to manage income and strategize services effectively. Our team consists of skilled and dedicated professionals committed to producing high-quality work under tight deadlines. We foster a friendly and supportive atmosphere, collaborating closely with clinicians, medical secretaries, and other allied health professionals to ensure all pertinent information is captured and coded precisely.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and deliver training courses, workshops, and ad-hoc sessions for clinical coders and associated staff.
- Conduct inductions for new team members, provide guidance to the Coding Manager on training and development needs, and serve as a mentor for novice coders.
- Assess learning requirements and design training pathways for trainees.
- Implement and conduct regular training sessions for clinical coders.
- Create and update training materials, ensuring compliance with national coding standards, and assist in developing case study training content.
- Offer coaching, conduct feedback sessions, and professionally address coding inaccuracies.
- Act as a primary point of contact for the Clinical Coding Department and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
