Job description

Overview

REI is looking for a Color Designer who can help define how products appear and feel through thoughtful color direction. In this role, you will create color palettes that feel fresh, aligned to the brand, and relevant to customer needs.

You will work closely with Product Strategy, Design, Materials, and Marketing teams to develop strong seasonal color stories. The role also involves following color trends, supporting seasonal concepts, and keeping color assets and files organized and accurate. Your contribution will help maintain a consistent REI design identity across products.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to category-level seasonal color strategy and storytelling
  • Develop and maintain color resources such as palettes, standards, and color matching references
  • Study trend direction and translate findings into mood boards and seasonal color guidance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners so color choices support product objectives
  • Keep color libraries current and update digital files as well as PLM records
  • Work within timelines and support the full color process from concept through delivery

Qualifications

  • 4 to 5+ years of experience in color design, apparel, product design, or material design
  • Bachelor’s degree in Product Design or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator and InDesign, plus MS Office
  • Strong visual judgment with a sharp eye for color accuracy, detail, and presentation quality
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work effectively within a product calendar
  • Clear communicator who can collaborate well across multiple teams

What You Bring

You are naturally interested in trends, materials, and the outdoor space. You think about the customer experience and how color shapes it. You stay organized, solve problems as they arise, adapt to changing priorities, and enjoy contributing ideas in a team setting.

Benefits and Pay Transparency

REI emphasizes pay equity and transparent compensation practices. Actual pay may vary based on skills, experience, location, and other relevant factors. Regular employees receive an employee discount, access to health benefits, a retirement savings plan, and accrued paid time off.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $64,600 to $103,500 per year.

Inclusion Statement

REI is committed to building an inclusive, anti-racist, multicultural workplace. The organization values diversity, belonging, respectful collaboration, and active listening as part of its broader mission to inspire and enable a life outdoors for everyone.
