Job description

Role overview

This is a senior commercial leadership opportunity with a well-established main contractor operating in the West of Ireland. The appointment is being made to support a growing project pipeline worth several million euros, making the role central to the business’s ongoing expansion.

Why this opportunity stands out

  • You can build a long-term career in Galway without needing to commute to Dublin.
  • The position offers strong day-to-day decision-making authority over a major regional workload, while working closely with the Commercial Director on overall strategy.
  • You will step into an established structure, with Senior or Project Quantity Surveyors already handling the operational site-level activity.

Core duties

  • Lead and support the regional surveying function, while overseeing 3 to 4 live commercial and residential developments.
  • Put effective cost management systems in place, review monthly CVRs, and help safeguard profitability across all active projects.
  • Manage subcontract procurement, handle variations to the main contract, and reduce commercial exposure from early delivery stages through to final account completion.
  • Work with senior leadership on commercial strategy, including procurement approaches, joint venture considerations, and the viability of future pipeline opportunities.

Ideal background

This position will suit an experienced Commercial Manager, or a high-performing Senior Quantity Surveyor who is ready to take the next step into full commercial leadership.

  • You should have at least 7 years of commercial experience in general contracting, commercial construction, or residential building in Ireland or the UK.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a similar commercial field is expected.
  • You should be able to lead, coach, and develop surveying teams based on site.
  • Local knowledge of the Galway region and the subcontractor market is important, and you should be living within a practical commuting distance of Galway city.

Confidential process

This is a discreet retained search, so all applications and early enquiries will be managed with complete professional confidentiality.
