About the Role

The Construction Planner will be instrumental in developing, managing, and analyzing the project's master schedule. This role is crucial for translating engineering blueprints and tender information into a detailed, logic-based Construction Baseline Program that defines the project's critical path. The Planner is responsible for integrating time and cost considerations, ensuring realistic production rates, optimizing resource allocation, and establishing sound engineering logic for all project activities. This position acts as an early warning system, providing essential data for audits and contractual claims.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze the project's master schedule.
  • Translate engineering drawings and tender data into a logic-driven Construction Baseline Program.
  • Define and manage the project's critical path.
  • Ensure alignment between project timelines and costs.
  • Validate production rates and resource histograms for realism and optimization.
  • Establish and maintain sound engineering logic between all project activities.
  • Serve as an early warning system for potential project delays or issues.
  • Provide meticulous data to support audits and contractual claims.

Requirements

  • A primary degree in Civil Engineering or a related construction field.
  • Professional registration or certification (e.g., ERB or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Advanced certification in MS Project and/or Primavera P6 is required.
  • Certification in CCS (Candy) Link/Planning module is necessary.
  • A minimum of 10-12 years of overall career experience in the civil engineering sector.
  • At least 5 years of practical site experience as a Site Engineer or Site Agent is mandatory; candidates without this background will not be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing baseline schedules for infrastructure projects exceeding R500M, such as roads, bridges, dams, or power plants.
  • Experience in preparing project schedules for Development Finance Institution (DFI)-funded projects with stringent reporting requirements.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the SADC region and/or on projects funded by the World Bank or African Development Bank (AfDB).
