Creative Producer

The opportunity

City Cast Pittsburgh is hiring a creatively driven producer with an editorial mindset to help steer the daily conversation across its podcast, newsletter, and social channels. This position is ideal for someone who knows Pittsburgh well, enjoys working on mic, and can craft thoughtful, engaging content that supports a local media brand every day.

The role spans editorial planning, writing, audio production, and live contribution, making it a central part of the team’s daily workflow. You’ll collaborate closely with the host, executive producer, and audience development manager to shape timely coverage and keep the audience engaged across platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Generate timely, relevant, and compelling ideas for the daily podcast, newsletter, and social content.
• Draft newsletter editions on assigned days in a voice that is clear, witty, and locally relevant.
• Prepare for podcast segments you help produce or appear on, working with the host and executive producer.
• Edit podcast episodes using Descript or comparable editing software.
• Build subject-area expertise by owning 2 to 3 recurring beats.
• Occasionally gather field audio or visual material to support social and broader content needs.
• Regularly contribute on mic with confidence, personality, and local insight.
• Partner with the host and audience development manager to create daily social posts.
• Prepare and produce ads that will be inserted into podcast episodes.

• Strong curiosity and enthusiasm for Pittsburgh and its local culture.
• A collaborative attitude, a sense of humor, and a willingness to keep learning.
• At least 3 years of experience producing and/or editing editorial content.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with hard deadlines.
• Strong writing ability with a voice that feels polished, engaging, and easy to follow.
• Familiarity with Descript, or the ability and willingness to learn it quickly.
• Confidence speaking on air and contributing thoughtfully to podcast discussions.
• Excellent organization and the ability to manage several priorities at once.
• Video shooting and editing experience for social media is a bonus.

Work setup and compensation

This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits. The salary range is $65,000 to $80,000 annually, with pay depending on experience. Candidates must be based locally, although the role will be performed primarily remotely. The position reports to the Executive Producer of City Cast Pittsburgh.
