Role overview
The Credit Controller will sit within the Finance department and report directly to the Accounts Receivable Manager. The role focuses on safeguarding cash flow through effective credit control, timely collections, and accurate payment allocation.
Core purpose
- Drive recovery of all overdue company debt in line with weekly, monthly, and annual collection targets.
- Keep debtor days consistently at 30 days.
- Manage receivables for a portfolio of around 600 customers each month.
- Apply customer receipts correctly against services delivered, following the organisation’s credit policy.
Key performance areas
- Achieve the collection targets assigned for the role.
- Reduce the share of debt aged 180 days and above within the total outstanding portfolio.
- Limit the monthly movement of balances into bad debt status.
- Maintain organised debtor records so information can be easily found when required.
- Process remittance advice from debtors to ensure payments are allocated correctly.
- Issue account statements to clients regularly and resolve any differences without delay.
Education and experience
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline. Candidates should bring 2 to 4 years of practical experience in a commercial credit control or accounts receivable environment.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Strong understanding of receivables management, collections practices, and credit policy enforcement.
- Working knowledge of ageing debt portfolios and bad debt monitoring.
- Familiarity with corporate credit procedures and relevant local financial regulations.
- Confident, professional approach to negotiating payment of overdue invoices.
- Ability to reconcile accounts and address billing or payment discrepancies quickly.
- Capacity to manage a large customer portfolio while meeting demanding targets.
- Good numerical reasoning and analytical judgement for tracking debtor days and portfolio trends.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills for handling both clients and internal stakeholders.
