About the role
The Ministry of Education New Zealand is seeking a permanent, full-time Curriculum Advisor based in Whakatāne, Bay of Plenty. This position supports early learning centres, schools, kura, and kōhanga reo across the region, with a strong focus on kaupapa Māori and Māori medium settings.
As part of a regional team, you will work directly with teachers and kaiako to strengthen teaching and learning programmes, assessment practice, and curriculum delivery. The role is centred on improving outcomes for all learners through high-quality curriculum support, collaboration with communities, and practical guidance in education settings.
Applicants based in Tauranga, Rotorua, or nearby Bay of Plenty areas may also be well suited if they are able to commute.
Key purpose of the role
- Support the design and delivery of teaching and learning programmes.
- Help implement government curriculum priorities that improve student achievement.
- Promote equitable learning outcomes for diverse learners.
- Work alongside whānau, hapū, and iwi so teaching reflects the aspirations of tamariki.

What you will bring
To succeed in this role, you will need strong relationship-building skills, curriculum expertise, and proven experience working across education settings. A deep understanding of teaching, learning, leadership, curriculum theory, and assessment practice is essential, along with the confidence to support professional change.
For candidates working in kaupapa Māori and Māori medium environments, experience with te ao Māori, te reo, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori is critical. You must be able to work confidently in these contexts, understand Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and communicate fluently in te reo Māori.
Additional information
This is a permanent role with a salary range of $100,296 to $121,490 per year plus KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be placed at a level that reflects their skills and experience.
The role requires travel and therefore a full, current driver licence is necessary.
The position is subject to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
