Overview
This role is for a Customer Delivery Driver based in Banbridge, Northern Ireland. The job is field-based and customer-facing, with a strong focus on service quality, safe driving, and supporting shoppers at their homes.
Working pattern
The advertised availability windows are Tuesday 14:30 to 20:00, Thursday 18:00 to 22:00, and Saturday 13:00 to 23:00. The company aims to provide contracted hours within these windows, and shift timings will be confirmed three weeks in advance. New joiners are normally offered a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week, though there may also be opportunities for a reduced weekly commitment down to 12 hours. Flexible availability that closely matches the advertised times may still be considered.
Role summary
As the public face of the business on the road, you will deliver shopping to customers across a wide area and interact with them at their homes. The role goes beyond driving and includes providing friendly, reliable, and helpful service with a positive attitude. The work is active, practical, and varied, with no two shifts being the same. You will often work independently while remaining supported by managers and colleagues at base when needed.
Responsibilities
- Complete customer deliveries as part of the shopping journey and make sure service is delivered within the customer’s chosen time slot.
- Keep the delivery van and trays clean, neat, and properly arranged.
- Ensure the tray-wash process is followed and help keep the yard clear, tidy, and free of litter.
- Load the van safely as required and check that the vehicle is roadworthy before setting off.
- Discuss any order changes with the customer, including unavailable items and substitutes, and process refunds where needed.
- Treat all goods and deliveries with care, as though they were your own.
- Reassure customers that substitutes will not be charged at a higher amount.
- Contact the customer before arrival if you are going to be early.
- Contact the store or centre if you expect to be 30 minutes or more behind schedule.
Requirements
- You should be comfortable building positive working relationships and contributing to a strong team atmosphere.
- A warm, approachable manner is important when dealing with both customers and colleagues.
- You need to be adaptable and able to respond quickly to changing customer needs.
- You should be energetic, motivated, and able to balance work with personal commitments.
- You will be expected to share ideas with your manager and teammates to help improve the store experience.
- A valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence is required, with either full or automatic entitlement only.
- You must have held the driving licence for at least 12 months.
- No more than 3 penalty points are allowed on the licence.
- Tesco will only hire individuals who have passed school-leaver age.
