About the Role
FedEx Australia is seeking a Customs Classifier to join their team in Matraville, New South Wales. This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate tariff classification and adherence to customs regulations for all import and export shipments. By meticulously identifying and classifying goods, you will directly contribute to efficient customs clearance processes and uphold exceptional customer service standards.
Responsibilities
- Assign appropriate tariff classifications to goods in accordance with customs regulations and the international Harmonized System (HS) codes.
- Scrutinize shipment documentation, including invoices and packing lists, to verify the accuracy of tariff classifications.
- Engage with clients, freight forwarders, and internal departments to gather precise product details and resolve inquiries related to classification.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of prevailing customs legislation, trade agreements, and tariff schedules to ensure compliance and provide informed advice.
- Identify and rectify any discrepancies found in classifications or documentation, ensuring proactive communication with all relevant parties.
- Liaise with the Australian Border Force (ABF) and other governmental bodies to guarantee full regulatory compliance.
- Keep detailed and organized records of all tariff classifications and customs clearance procedures.
- Stay informed about emerging industry trends and changes in customs laws to pinpoint areas for operational enhancement.
Requirements
- Possess a minimum of secondary education or its equivalent.
- Certifications related to the use of specialized equipment or subject matter expertise are highly desirable.
- For Level I: A minimum of two years of experience in customs clearance.
- For Level II: A minimum of three years of experience in customs clearance.
- For Lead positions: A minimum of four years of experience in customs clearance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general PC usage.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and effective problem-solving capabilities.
- Exhibit proven skills in planning and organization, with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.
