Job description
Role overview
This position is with an established logistics and freight forwarding business based in Cork. The company is looking for a seasoned customs specialist to strengthen its team and support the compliant movement of freight across road, sea, and air channels. It is a permanent, office-based role offering full-time hours in a fast-moving international setting.
Working pattern and compensation
The role follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 9:00am to 5:30pm, which totals 37.5 hours per week. The salary range is €35,000 to €40,000, depending on experience, and the package also includes benefits as well as mid-year and end-of-year bonuses.
Key duties
You will be responsible for preparing and submitting import and export customs declarations, ENS filings, and PBN submissions within the required deadlines. The role also involves coordinating clearance activity across different freight modes, checking and collecting supporting documents from customers, agencies, and internal stakeholders, and maintaining templates for repeat shipments. You will support compliance checks, internal audit work, and ongoing customs control processes, while working closely with operations teams to keep cargo moving efficiently.
Compliance and process improvement
Another important part of the job is helping the business stay aligned with AEO requirements and customs legislation. You will also look for practical ways to improve workflows, reduce delays, and make the clearance process more efficient.
Required experience and knowledge
The ideal candidate brings 2 to 4 years of customs clearance experience in Ireland, preferably gained in freight forwarding, logistics, shipping, or transport. Strong familiarity with Irish Revenue customs procedures is essential, along with hands-on experience using Azyra software. Good Microsoft Office capability, especially with Excel, Word, and Outlook, is also needed. The role calls for excellent accuracy, strong organisation, confident communication, the ability to manage stakeholders, and the capacity to work independently while balancing several priorities.
Technical expertise
Applicants should have solid working knowledge of import and export customs processes, customs documentation and clearance workflows, Incoterms, tariff classification, transit procedures, EUR1 and ATR1 paperwork, rules of origin, certificates of origin, invoice declarations, REX, customs invoicing, VAT and duty handling, customs warehousing, inward processing relief, anti-dumping duties, safeguard duties, quota rules, and other customs codes and regulatory obligations.
Desirable experience
Additional exposure to DAFM, HSE, Port Health, or similar government bodies would be an advantage. Prior work producing CHEDs via TRACES, uploading documents through INIS, or submitting TSS declarations for Northern Ireland imports is also considered beneficial.
Benefits
The package includes a competitive salary, performance bonuses at mid-year and year-end, a comprehensive benefits offering, and the chance to build a long-term career in a supportive, collaborative logistics environment.
Candidate fit
This opportunity is best suited to someone with customs clearance experience who wants to grow their career in Cork within a stable and expanding organisation.
